DISC Workshop for Students in Singapore

Two students can look at the same picture and see different things. Neither is wrong. They are simply wired differently, and the same is true of how they work in a team, respond to pressure and communicate.

Our DISC workshop helps students understand their own personality style and the styles of the people around them, then use that understanding when it matters: in group work, in a CCA, in a leadership role and, later, at work.

What Students Discover About Themselves

DISC describes four patterns of behaviour: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. Every student has some of each, in a different mix.

A personal DISC report

Each student completes an online DISC profile and receives an individual report. Students read their own profile during the session, alongside a coach who explains what it says and what it does not.

Their strengths and limits

Students identify the characteristics, strengths and limitations of their own style, so they can lead from what they do well and notice where they tend to clash with others.

How Students Learn to Work With Different Personalities

The workshop is built around experience, not explanation.

Seeing differences before naming them

The session opens with images that the room sees differently, and then a team challenge played before anyone knows their DISC type. When the reports arrive, students are not reading abstract descriptions. They are reading an account of what just happened in their own team.

Naming the four styles

A gallery walk through the four styles gives the group a shared vocabulary, and a short quiz checks what they have understood.

Putting it to work

Students return to a team challenge, this time with their profiles in hand, and try communicating with each teammate in the way that teammate needs. Depending on the cohort, the application can focus on:

  • working in a team

  • leading others with a style that suits them

  • communicating with different personality types

  • choosing study and career paths that fit how they work

A Workshop for Singapore Polytechnic Students

At Singapore Polytechnic, Year 1 to 3 EDGE students went through a three-hour DISC workshop designed with the programme's coordinator. The highest-rated outcome, at 96.9%, was how well students could identify the characteristics, strengths and limitations of their own personality type. Read the Singapore Polytechnic case study.

How Our DISC Workshops Run

Every session follows the Leaven Learning Cycle, our adaptation of David Kolb's experiential learning cycle. Students experience an activity, reflect on it, draw out the insight, decide on a behaviour and see its consequence.

Who it is for

  • Secondary, junior college, ITE and polytechnic students

  • Student leaders and committees who need to work well together

  • Whole cohorts, so a level shares a common language for working with others

Formats

  • Half-day workshops of 3 to 4 hours, including individual DISC reports

  • Multi-session programmes that add leadership, communication or career planning

  • Formats designed around your school calendar

Questions Schools Ask About DISC for Students

Is DISC a test students can pass or fail?

No. DISC describes behaviour and preferences. There is no better or worse style, and students learn that from the first activity.

Do students keep their DISC report?

Yes. Each student receives a personal report to keep and refer back to.

Can DISC be combined with leadership or communication training?

Yes. DISC is often the first part of a longer programme, followed by student leadership or communication workshops.
